If you're looking for an educational experience full of culture, history and beauty then this is place for you! It spans five millennia with civilizations ranging from Africa to East Asia represented by their best known works: Egyptian funerary mask, Chinese lion dance figure, Australian aboriginal bark painting among many others.

You need a free general entry ticket to visit the Gallery. Your ticket gives you access to all non-paid exhibitions and galleries.  The Gallery offers free tours from Monday to Friday at 11am.

The design of the Gallery was complicated by the Parliament Triangle layout, which affected its location. The Commonwealth wanted the new Parliament House to be built in the southern part of the Triangle, but this was opposed by both Victorian and ACT governments. Eventually a compromise was reached: there would be two sites for Parliament Houses, one in each end of the triangle; but final arrangements were not made until 1977 with construction commencing on both buildings six years later.

The National Gallery of Australia is one the most iconic buildings in Canberra, which provides a beautiful experience for tourists and locals alike. The paintings are always changing so there is never a dull moment!
